Looking up has rewards

I found this picture on my computer — I took it some time in November. The majority of the leaves around town are now more brown than colorful — or completely fallen. Maybe that’s why I have to post this pic a bit late. Those leaves are a good memory.

Can you guess when I took this one? Black Friday morning, of course, at the Anderson Mall. 🙂 I never thought getting up that early would be worth it, but worth it smirsh it, it was exciting. And there were deals good enough to encourage me to do it again next year. I didn’t stand in the above line though. These folks were lined up at Belk — waiting for the 5:00 a.m. opening time (and it was ONLY 4:22!). And it was cold. Around the corner J.C. Penny opened at 4 a.m. I hightailed it over there and was enthralled with the sales, the people, the chatter, and of course, the energy of the moment. I actually found what I needed! After leaving J.C. Penny, I drove around and the best line I saw was at Target. Even the police were there. The cars flying around the parking lot were so numerous and the lights were so bright, I could have sworn it was daylight. Best Buy and Old Navy were already open, so I didn’t see those lines…maybe next year. 🙂

Half Full

Thanksgiving is upon us. A cool concept. A designated day to consciously give thanks. With the fam. The community. And yet, as with many holidays, it’s a period of anxiety. For me anyway. I haven’t even posted in the last two days. 🙂 The above faded flowers, found in the New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery, are placed against a rusted rod sticking out of the ground, with no recognizable grave close by. They remind me to choose to be positive. In the midst of whatever. To be humble. To remember the greater perspective. (Not my personal hangnails.) To contribute peace and something pretty (or funny), not anger. Instead of dreading Thursday’s rituals and traditions, and the possible tension and stomach clenching that may be involved, I can choose to give thanks for the good.

An ordinary telephone pole transformed on Fridays to yard sale marquee. This Saturday there is a gym yard sale at a local church — much warmer. 🙂

City amenities

Filed under: Fall, Halloween, Thanksgiving — lessie @ 7:48 pm

I just shake my head when I hear folks say they prefer living a suburban life — to avoid city taxes. I appreciate the services that the city provides. Trash removal as regular as clockwork. Debris removal, too. (It’s so nice not to have to borrow a truck!) And I love the recreation center (but that’s an entirely different posting!:) ). The above pic shows the Fall colors in the background — it’s fast becoming my fav season.

Yellow veins

Filed under: Fall, Halloween, Thanksgiving — lessie @ 6:26 pm

I am obsessed with Fall colors. Especially the leaves and trees with multiple colors. I like the yellow in the veins of this leaf.

In a Puddle

Filed under: Fall, Halloween, Thanksgiving — lessie @ 3:22 pm

I have super been enjoying the Fall colors. It seems that they have just exploded in the last 2 weeks. A friend spotted these in a puddle. I like that there are various types and colors in one place. Good eye!

Fresh apples

Last week when I visited my dad, he gave me fresh apples from Long Creek, South Carolina. I have fond childhood memories of traveling to the mountains in the Fall, primarily seeking fragrant apples, but also collecting bags of boiled peanuts along the way.

The above produce stand is found at the Anderson Jockey Lot. You can see a bit of the fall colors in the distance. Hope all your apples are crunchy and sweet.

In the spirit

I am not a get-in-the-spirit kind of person. I’ve never felt a desire to dress up for Halloween or even decorate. Until this year. The difference? I’m not sure, but I find myself watching festive adults, looking for costume ideas. This spooky lady participated in Capstone’s Trunk or Treat on Halloween. (Yes, I have more pics, but I’ll try to hold off and do something new tomorrow. 🙂 ) By the way…have you voted? I’ll be screeching into the voting booth right before closing.

This cute little guy dressed as Larry from Veggie Tales for Halloween. Just adorable. He participated in Capstone’s Trunk or Treat Friday night, spending quality time hitting some balls.
