“The” Fountain Xtra

Around the second tier of the fountain are these unisex, almost “Cupid” figures, who are preparing to bathe. This one is washing his feet.

The third tier has three female figures holding various items. Are all these figures from Greek or Roman mythology? I’m not educated enough or simply not familiar enough with such to know. Seems quite strange today, but I’m sure it was top notch in 1905. 🙂

The top figure of the fountain. Again, I have to ask…why this lady? What is she holding? It’s really a cool affect — but why were she and the plant chosen? Is there symbolism involved?
