Angel Fish Xtra

Native American? What story does this sculpture depict?

  1. I’m glad you enjoy the colors. The image is of the archangel Gabriel blowing his horn (the fish’s mouth.) It’s adapted for this purpose from one of a series of small acrylic paintings. They are contemporary interptretations of the kind of Celtic figures found in the illuminated pages of the Book of Kells. The Book of Kells was created about 805 AD in Ireland, and is a copy of the gospels of the New Testament.

Translating the 2-D image onto the 3-D fish form was more of a challenge that I anticipated, but I’m glad I had the opportunity to participate in this fundraising activity for the Anderson Arts Center.
