Nov. 14, 1931

The above plaque — shaped like Anderson County! — memoralizes a landing made by Amelia Earhart on Nov. 14, 1931, at the original Anderson County Airport. Earhart was participating in a nation-wide tour promoting Beechnut products. (Advertising dollars at work.) The photo of Earhart and local Andersonians makes the plaque’s history more tangible. I like that the plaque is on a hill overlooking the ballfield. It was windy when I shot the pic — and standing there at the ridge gave me the feeling of flight. Another view here.
