Spire? Finial?

Filed under: Fall, Halloween, Thanksgiving — lessie @ 11:00 pm

I’m not sure the name for the decorative “red thing” above — but I think it’s cool, as well as the fact that it coordinates with the building’s roof, window trimming AND the adjacent tree leaves. 🙂 Downtown Anderson.

  1. I wish the long banner on the right side of the web page wouldn’t cover the photo. Is there a way to remove that?

    • Thanks for your comment! I will work on it.

Here is a link to the photo away from the site.

I really appreciate that you want to see it!

  2. If you’re referring to the eyebrow above the windows as the “red thing” – it’s vernacularly termed a “Hood”; meant originally to help shed rain from a wooden window…but as with some much else, what started out primarily a practical measure later became mostly ornamental.
Nevertheless, your photo was interesting for the repetitive color tones – natural and manmade.

    • Thank you so much! Now I know someone who knows something about architecture — I’ll be forwarding my questions to you! 🙂

      Seriously though, very interesting.
