Local is the best

I learned how well-known Arnold’s is in Anderson when I noticed folks giving directions around it. “Oh, Master’s Wok? It’s next-door to Arnold’s.”
Arnold’s was a tiny, tiny sit-at-the-counter place. Unfortunately, I never followed up on the delicious smells wafting from inside.
I learned how popular Arnold’s is after it moved to the “business district” of Anderson, into a smallish strip mall near Michael’s and Target. The strip mall’s parking lot changed overnight from empty and lonely to having almost every space full. The above shot is from the former location. I love the painted door. Click here to get the concrete welcome.

  1. Arnold’s does have the best chili cheeseburgers in town. You won’t see a box of frozen or purchased patties, they are hand made on site. In the 1960’s on the square in downtown Anderson was a diner named Dickson’s Ice Cream. Arnold started there as a teenager and learned his trade. That’s why we still have a burger from the past, made just like they did forty five years ago at Dickson’s. My family would go there for ice cream, which was served by ‘curb hops’ right to your car window…Summer nights and simple times…

  2. I love places like this. I am from Savannah, GA and we have a few of these oldie but goldies…they are a dying breed however. Love the pic.

  3. YUMMY…Arnold’s for lunch soon might be in order. It’s been awhile since I’ve been.
