Apple Island Access

The above is from a couple of weeks ago. Drive past Broyles Recreation Area, just off Hwy 24, and there sits Apple Island access to Hartwell Lake. People drive their boats to locations like this and put in the water. I had read in the paper that certain access areas were closed due to low water levels, but it took seeing the closed gate for it to sink in. I got out of the car and walked to the ramp, and sure enough, it hovers feet above water too shallow for a boat. I was fascinated with “Apple Island” though, never having heard of or seen it. Sights like this make complaining about rain impossible. We are receiving torrents today, and I’m loving it.
