Star in the Rough

Filed under: Homes — lessie @ 8:01 pm

While this house, located in the Anderson University area, did not initiate for me a neck-pain inducing double take — its subtle beauty really shines through. I adore the curved porch. Let that sink in. Curved porch. The matching triangle gables (and chimneys) provide cool symmetry upon which to build the curved portion of the house to the left and the curved portion of the porch to the right. The detail of the wood at the eaves is like lace on a blouse or ribbed icing on a pretty cake. I like this old girl’s subtle beauty. So much, I find myself wanting to get in there and add contrasting colors to her fascade, elegant railing to the steps, architecturally accurate windows, and a fabulous front door that screams “Look at me!” Oh, well, so much for subtle.
