Birds borrowing feathers

Filed under: Animals — lessie @ 3:43 pm

Chris Taylor Park, over by the Civic Center, is one of my favorite Anderson places. The small pond is big enough for fishing, ducks, geese, and the occasional long-legged bird, maybe it was a crane? Excited and sometimes timid children feed bits of bread to the honking ducks and geese.

Several Saturdays ago, I sat in the shade by the pond. The tree’s shadow created a completely different world, feeling safe from the burning rays and blistering heat. My sister noticed in a nearby bush a small bird’s nest. We peered carefully toward it, not disturbing any branch. I was delighted to see the palm-sized bird had woven into her nest the duck and geese feathers scattered on the ground. More pics are here.
