New County Home

Filed under: Parks — lessie @ 1:57 pm

From what I understand (please correct me if I’m wrong!), the Anderson Recycling and Education Center is on the site of the “Old” County Home as well as a former Anderson County jail. When rennovating the area, Anderson County renamed it the “New County Home” and, well, the Anderson Recycling and Education Center. 🙂

I can’t help but think it’s a little known jewel. I have become familiar with it because of the recycling — which sits at the top of a hill surrounded by open fields, attractive to hot air balloons during the Southeastern Balloon Fest in August. Believe it or not, it’s feet from the Anderson Mall and our busy business district. An oasis of nature, which Anderson County has taken full advantage of for its citizens. It has a lovely covered picnic area in the shape of a barn (which I’ll show tomorrow), a volleyball area, labeled plantings, and even a stream and a swing at the bottom of the hill.

  1. The horse made from an old tire is an excellent example of a recycle success. The new county home on a hill with open fields may be the real treasure to a photographer such as yourself.

Lessie, I have been busy working on a new version of the Daily Photo Map. Please drop by and let me know what you think. If you are interested in participating click on the show sidebar link and follow the directions to join … Thanks.

  3. […] I also wanted to take a photo of one of the recycled tire swings at the recycling center to share here today, but didn’t make it back over there like I planned.  Never fear, Lessie has snapped those swings before and I’m sure she wouldn’t mind you visiting her photo here. […]
