When I first drove by this subdivision, my jaw nearly dropped. Sacrilege! Using Rivendale, the beautiful and serene home of Elron, chief of the elves for the name of a neighborhood! And yet, well, it does make some sense. It’s taken me quite a few drive-bys to not feel that same kick in the stomach though. 🙂 As I write this, I feel a tug toward my bookshelf. One can never reread the Lord of the Rings too many times.

I like that Shire Drive is the first road into Rivendale. The neighborhood is sooooo large (I drove around last night like I’ve been meaning to forever) that it has another exit named Bree Drive. Appropriate, huh? It made me smile. I wish I had found a Buckland Drive, though. That would have been very cool.

It is a beautiful neighborhood, full of custom homes of brick, wood, copper, stucco, round windows, and three-car garages. Do the residents work in Greenville? The neighborhood is convenient to Highway 81, just a jump from I-85. Interesting. I’m preplexed though — because, unlike Bree and Shire, I did not recognize the other road names. This is going to BUG me. Can you help? Some are here.

  1. I’d just show my ignorance if I tried to contribute. I think you can surmise that I haven’t read Lord of the Rings, nor did I see the movie. I’m culturally illiterate in some ways, I suppose.
