Boiled P-Nuts

Filed under: Miscellaneous — lessie @ 3:57 pm

Slurp the juice of the boiled peanut. Relish the sharp, salty flavor. Northerners who say “it’s a waste of a good peanut” have no idea what they’re missing.

People from other countries rich in unique culture and ethnicity, might point out that the U.S. doesn’t have its own culture. The U.S. just borrows culture from others and mixes those traits together like good salsa. Excellent with a fresh, crisp tortilla chip.

Perhaps there is some truth in that. And perhaps it’s also true that with global communication and travel, the world itself is becoming more homogeneous. For this reason, I love the Daily Photo Community. With each picture from across the U.S. and the globe, I get to enjoy the bits unique to each community.

And also for this reason, I enjoy boiled peanuts. Like grits, they satisfy that need for comfort. They remind me of mountain roads and country produce stands. Of home. Of where I belong.

  1. I have never had boiled peanuts … but I will try almost anything once (as long as it’s legal). Occasionally I am rather surprised that I actually like it!

  2. Don’t think we can get boiled peanuts in the UK, I prefer non salted, to salted though.
