Wilbur Ashley’s

Filed under: Downtown — lessie @ 2:36 am

I find this automobile service place quite charming. Located a block from Main Street, across from the Anderson Visitors and Convention Center. I especially like the sign.

A couple of weeks ago, I took a day off work to get some errands done. Course, I took some pics, too. Wandering downtown, I ran into this busy attorney, Carolyn Galloway, walking from her office to the Anderson County Courthouse.

Bridge Arch

The main street bridge — which blends so seamlessly into the road that one doesn’t notice it’s a bridge — has small concrete arches in its railing. Underneath is the mighty Kudzu.

The outside shed. People camp over from Friday to make sure they save the best tables.

St. John’s Fountain

St. John’s Methodist Church, established in the 1800’s, has a beautiful church building. This fountain in particular was a delightful surprise. I haven’t done it justice, butI definitely tried. Some more photos are here. St. John’s is located on the corner of McDuffie and River Streets.

Loading dock

Filed under: Miscellaneous — lessie @ 2:07 am

I took this on Saturday — the loading dock on this seemingly small and empty warehouse just struck me with its age and wear. I guess trucks used to back up to it and even hit it. It’s near the railroad tracks, next to the First Presbyterian cemetery. Other angles are here.

I took this photo last week. The new courthouse is to the left and the “new” condos are to the right, being rennovated. The building being updated originally housed retail shops and merchants’ homes upstairs, I imagine. I like how the guys in the photo both are carrying pipe. I’m not sure how the front entrance of the condos is going to work — it kind of hangs into what was a street. Hmmm….we shall see.

Nile Perch

Filed under: Hooked on Arts — lessie @ 1:41 pm

The colors Myrl Garment used with this fish are so striking. One of the few whose eyes draw me in. The fish is located downtown. See the full view here.

I adore this sign. I can’t take enough of it. And I don’t have a pic yet I’m completely happy with. It’s high off the ground so it’s visible from the Murray Avenue bridge. The Anderson Visitors and Convention Center is in the background.

I hope the owners of this business wouldn’t be angry if they ever saw this picture. I couldn’t help but snap it. See the tape? 🙂 Love it! It’s downtown. That’s all I’ll say. 🙂
